The Day of Small Things

It was almost 7pm and I was waiting outside for my ride to Bible study.

When we lived in Houston, the traffic on I-10 was a constant source of noise, though we lived far enough away to think you wouldn’t hear it.

But now I live in “the country” and the sound I hear most often is birdsong.

On this early evening, the birds were melodiously calling to each other, back-and-forth, singing a beautiful chorus.

As I waited, I stood under an old large, just budding oak tree. Above me, the tree was alive with tiny birds flitting from branch to branch, all swift movement and sweet sound.

The tall, proud oak.

The birds so light and free.

Small things.

I haven’t always stopped to notice the small things.

Small things are often ignored in a world largely filled with suffering and hardship, disease, division and death. And yet they remind me that even when my life feels unpredictable and problems loom large, small things endure.

God is teaching me to appreciate these small things.

His creation sings in perfect harmony because the small things are just as important as the large.

The honey bee.

The tadpole.

The north wind and the warmth of the summer sun.

God truly cares about all small, beautiful things, whether an act of kindness, a bird’s song or a whispered prayer. They are reminders of His love, His care.

This week, take a moment to consider them . . .

Today is a day of small things.

Today is a GOOD day,

Natalie
