Our People

Winnie the Pooh to Piglet:

“If you live to be a hundred, I want to live to be a hundred minus one day so I never have to live without you.”

As iron sharpens iron,

so a person sharpens his friend.

Proverbs 27:17 NET

I had the members of my Bible study over for coffee a few weeks ago. I’d missed seeing them when we all left for summer traveling and family vacations and slow schedules.

As we sat that Saturday morning, mugs and muffins in hand, I marveled at the way God orchestrates our lives for the intersection of the perfect people, at the perfect time.

We’re a small group: some are friends I’ve known my whole life and others I met when we moved back to SC in December. We span 50 years in age - such a blessing as wisdom, compassion and laughter are found at every stage of life. I learn constantly from these amazing women.

They are becoming my people.

I’ll bet you have people, too. They may be old friends or new, a medley of ages, a wealth of personalities. God allows diverse experiences, joyful occasions, and maybe, especially, weighty struggles to share with our people.

Jesus had His people, too: His followers, His cousin John, and His friends, Mary, Martha and Lazarus. To each, He was not only Messiah, but friend. He shared in their lives and deeply loved each one.

Friends help us to live wholly abundant lives. We sharpen each other. We care for each other in difficulties. We lift up each other in sacrificial love.

Jesus said:

“This is my command: Love one another as I have loved you. No one has greater love than this: to lay down his life for his friends.”

John 15:12-13

Jesus calls us to love as He did - and so He entrusts us with special friends.

Who are your people?

Thank God for the blessing of them today!

Today is a GOOD day!
